Playful Magazine x Iza Bułeczka: illustration project insights (kinky)
What comes to your mind as first 3-5 things when you think about Berlin? As I‘m writing this post my Internet is dead (part of the reason why I‘m actually writing and not binging netflix) so I can‘t check any stats. But my guts tell me sex and fetish would generally make it quite high on the list.
At least for me, since before moving to Berlin I have never seen my friends posting their special full harness outfits with #tgif.
If you know my art, you know that there is a lot of nudity, but I keep it on the sensual not sexual side. Was I dreaming about something kinky? HELL YEAH!
In the summer, I was approched by Playful to illustrate an Anonymous Story by Farah Haze. "Baby‘s first sex party" is the title. I don‘t want to spoil the story, but you can pretty much get the general context.
What is more, the illustration was supposed to be available as a poster. This is very important information for an illustrator. It means that the illustration has to make sense both with the story as well as a stand alone piece.
Would you like to know how the illustration was created?
I read the text several times and highlighted keywords for the mood but also descriptions of people. I made a list with what the author wanted to say AND what my role is in the story telling. What feelings do I want to evoke?
Secondly, one character that spoke to my imagination the most was chosen and I decided to put her in the spotlight.
Next step is creating the character- here I had some directions about her body, attitude and outfit. To play the traditional playboy bunnies on the nose, I added a curvy bum for extra deliciousness and white hair because who said there‘s age limit at sex parties!
Once the general idea of my Bunny was ready, she had to be captured in a pose. And here I went for help to burlesque-boudoir esthetics. It was very important to me that she is confident, sexy, beautiful, but there is also some kind of fun involved. Tongue-in-cheek and gorgeous.
To maintain the boudoir look I chose a colour palette with black and different shades of pink.
Fishnet stockings, leather underwear, decorative frame and the brick wall help to complement the image, build the scene and accentuate the mood I was going for.
And voila! Now you can see the illustration online, in the printed magazine or buy a poster for some additional sexy vibes in your bedroom.
